Manuscript commonplace book of Colonel Thomas Wildman, the owner (with his wife Louisa) of Newstead Abbey from 1819 to his death in 1859. The volume is primarily composed of Wildman's own original poetry (especially poems written to his wife on each of their wedding anniversaries) but also includes excerpts from Pope's Iliad and Odyssey, Dryden's Fables and other works. The book also includes Byron's "Vision of Judgment," apparently copied from the author's manuscript. The Clark Library also holds Louisa Wildman's commonplace book, 1819-1869.
